Soviel vorne weg:
- advanced projects
- proven resources (!)
- near term production
- feasibility study was done
- open pit Abbau

The History Factor:
1988: The Lac Knife graphite property was discovered in a joint venture between Mazarin (industrial mining company) and the town of Fermont. The property is 35km south of Fermont, Quebec near the northeastern border with Labrador. It is accessible by gravel road and rail (rail needs to be built).
1989 and 1990: Mazarin’s drilling program indicated a resource of 8.1m/t grading 16.7% graphite. The strip ratio is about 1:1 and overburden is only about 6m. Two feasibility studies were completed that estimated the capital costs to develop production at $32m in 1991 dollars.
1991: Mazarin hoped to bring Lac Knife into production but the economy went into recession, graphite prices nose-dived.
2001: After a 10-year gap, Graftech entered the picture. Union Carbide subsidiary UCAR created Graftech in 1999 and started working with Ballard Power Systems on “Grafcell”, a new fuel cell application. Strathcona Mineral Services did a worldwide search for appropriate graphite deposits for use in Grafcell, and came up with Lac Knife. Graftech did studies that demonstrated the quality of graphite was 2 to 3 times the average grade of most deposits being mined at that time. Graftech and Ballard updated their agreement and until 2015 Graftech was to be their exclusive manufacturer and supplier.
2002: A joint Graftech/Mazarin study was to be completed so that mining could begin in 2004. Production was to reach 50,000 t/y of graphite flake, making Lac Knife one of the world’s largest graphite producers. Processing would be standard on-site crushing and milling followed by flotation of the graphite and the elimination of waste. Prices then ranged from US $480-$500/t. U.S. consumption totaled 41,800 (’00), with flake accounting for nearly 45%.
2003+: Things did not proceed for a number of reasons: Ballard’s collapse, slower than expected market development of fuel cells and price dumping by the Chinese resulted in the collapse of the graphite market. Graftech changed focus away from fuel cells and into electronic thermal management. Graftech corporate was also facing some financial and regulatory issues and walked away from many projects. And, Mazarin was purchased by IAMGOLD and their focus was not on graphite – so, the property sat undeveloped.
2010: Focus Metals Inc. acquires The Lac Knife property. FMS is a spin-off from Everton Resources and listed under the symbol FMS-V. Focus intends to complete the necessary regulatory steps, develop Lac Knife (and its Kwyjibo REE property) and unlock the market potential of the company.
Six other factors will help unlock that potential:
o The numbers factor
o The China factor
o The automobile factor
o The nuclear factor
o The REE factor
o The US factor
The Numbers Factor:
Traditional demand for graphite has been tied to the steel and automotive industries. Demand grew at about 5% per annum for most of this decade due to ongoing industrialization of developing countries
Future demand, the “blue sky” for the graphite industry will be driven by the incremental demand
created by green initiatives. (Li ion batteries, fuel cells, etc.) Many of these applications have the potential to consume more graphite than all current uses combined. For example, currently in a typical car, ½ lb of graphite is used, but with a fuel cell powered car, 10-30 lb is used.
China produces over 80% of the world’s graphite and over 95% of REE. Currently “the China factor” determines the global market. Five other countries produce the other 20% of the world’s graphite with Canada being fourth. (See more below on the China factor)
The graphite market is almost as large as the nickel market (1.3 million tones per year (m t/y], far larger than the markets for magnesium (429m t/y), molybdenum (180m t/y) or tungsten (55 m t/y), and more than 50 x the size of the lithium or REE markets.
Exceeding one million tones per year, the market is comprised of 60% amorphous and 40% flake graphite. Only flake can be upgraded to 99.9% purity suitable for Li ion batteries. FMS can produce 50,000 t/y for 40 years.
In Q1 and Q2 of 2010, the supply of certain types of graphite was very tight. Chinese export restrictions and taxes, coupled with concentration of ownership in China by one mining group, resulted in escalating prices and limited spot market availability. July, 2010 European port prices per tonne were:
o Large flake $1,325 - $1,700
o Medium flake $1,125 - $1,200
o Fine flake $775 - $1,200

We are just closing a financing round for a total of 3.25 million dollars, the offering is oversubscribed and will close in the next few days.
We are preparing for next year's exploration activities in both of our projects, Kwyjibo which is the Rare Earth Elements project and Lac Knife which is the Graphite project.
We are currently in the process of drilling at Lac Knife so we can establish a 43-101 resource, we have 8.2 million tons of Graphite, aprox. 30% large flake 35% medium and the balance small flake, enclosed you will find some information on the project which was ready to go to production 10 years ago.
I am also enclosing a corporate presentation and brief document that talks about the market and why Focus will be a strong player.
My plan is to see both of these projects to production stage since they both hold a strategic resource.
Daraufhin habe ich einige Dinge nochmal hinterfragt, Antwort in fett:
1.) When do you have a final number on the 43-101 resource?
It will be in March, the resource is already proven, a feasibility study was done in 1990 and again in 2000, pre-43-101 we are now drilling 12 twinning holes just to bring the study to 43-101 standards
2.) When do you have a final confirmation of the production pre-feasibility preparations?
Already done, a scoping study starts in January
3.) What are the estimated costs for starting production?
Between 45 and 65 million, we will have a better number when the scoping study is completed, scheduled for June or July 2011
4.) How will you finance this step (production)?
I have 3 sources of funding already identified and one has already verbally committed , A) a major fund in the USA B) SGF, FTQ and Caisse de Depot in Quebec, C) a Korean finance firm
5.) Do you plan to sell a part of this project? (JV?)
Yes, we need a partner that is very knowledgeable in mining and Graphite processing as well as engineering and selling the material, I have identified and I am working with 4 different firms who fit the bill.
6.) How many capacity do you have? (menpower, geologists)
I have 4 Geologists on contract, I share administrative/accounting functions with 2 other firms in order to keep operating costs low.
I wonder a little bit (positive) because of that IAMGold has around 9% of the outstanding shares. As I know IAMGold is a real gold play.
Yes, they got their shares as part of the package when we purchased the Lac Knife project from them.
Do you have also gold properties?
Yes we do, but that is not our play at this time, our gold properties are very early stage and they are part of a much bigger area in the Labrador Trough, there is no current infrastructure, there will be in 10 years or so, but for now there is nothing up there, we acquired those claims from Everton when the company was initially set up, we will continue to secure more claims in that region for future exploration.
Our Focus for the short to medium term will be to take on Industrial mineral projects that enable technology and green energy and that we can clearly see going into production within the next 3 to 5 years, we will develop them to the stage where we can bring in a production and processing partner and try to secure a strong recurring revenue stream in the form of royalties. We will continue to focus on Quebec projects because the financial and government support is fantastic.

Kursziel Ende 2011 --> mind. 1$
