The bounce higher comes after the oil rig-count fell last week to 497, the lowest total since early February 2022. Analysts say the relatively low rig-count despite high oil prices that normally trigger increased drilling is the result of still-sticky inflation in the oil patch in terms of prices for labor, land and equipment. Natural gas-targeted rigs fall by 1 in the latest week, to 117, Baker Hughes says.

1025 ET - Oil markets are volatile as the new week gets underway, with US crude futures recently down 1% at $86.80 after trading 1.3% higher at $88.33 just a couple hours ago. "After the big up day on Friday, the market is really waiting for the next shoe to drop," says Price Futures' Phil Flynn in a research note. "Technically the market is back in a clear uptrend, reversing the downtrend pressure that was created after the crash from $95 back down to $82. People are still very nervous as we've said before, up until now the impact on supply [from Israel conflict] has been zero. It's very clear that there is growing pressure to shut down Iran's oil revenue."

Arizona Sonoran Copper Company Inc. has released its mineral resource update (MRE) for the combined Cactus, Stockpile and Parks/Salyer deposits (together, the Cactus project), located 45 miles south of Phoenix, Ariz. The upgraded MRE is expected to form the basis for the ASCU Pre-Feasibility Study ("PFS"), targeting a 45-50 ktpa copper cathode heap leach and SXEW operation, and is on track for release in Q1 2024. The brownfields project is wholly-owned and located on private land in Arizona with ~$30 million of infrastructure onsite, an advanced permitting stage, approved water rights and access to water.

SÃO PAULO--Vale's shares were 3.2% lower on investor concerns that China's economic troubles might reduce demand for the Brazilian iron ore miner's main product.
Shares reached 65.70 reais, the equivalent of $12.96, and were down 24% from the end of last year through Tuesday's close. Brazil's benchmark Ibovespa stocks index was down 1.2% in late-morning trading.
Chinese GDP figures for the third quarter came in a bit better than expected, but they also indicated that much of the growth in the period stemmed from government stimulus measures rather than normal demand, said Sidney Lima, a São Paulo-based independent stocks analyst.
China's indicators of real estate demand have also shown a decline, and the state of the Asian country's housing sector is a big worry for investors as well, Lima said. The construction industry is a big consumer of steel, and iron ore is the alloy's main ingredient.
