1024 ET - The price of gasoline in the US was basically flat last week, falling just 0.3 cents per gallon, and averages $3.40 today, according to a report by GasBuddy that points to upward pressures stemming from "tight supply and accelerating prices." Last week, gasoline stockpiles showed a higher-than-expected draw. Crude prices also rose and are up 2% today. GasBuddy says its data is compiled from more than 150K gas stations. The firm reports the average gas price in Dallas to have risen 13.4 cents. It says any price drops are likely to be temporary and drivers may get "good news" in some areas and not in others.

After the purchases, Buffett now has a 23.5% stake in the Houston-based energy company, or roughly 211 million shares. Buffett made his OXY stock buys between on March 23 and March 27 at prices ranging from 58.28-59.62. This comes after Buffett purchased 8 million shares of OXY stock between March 13 and March 16. Berkshire Hathaway bought around 6 million shares of Occidental Petroleum stock earlier in the month. Through the latter half of 2022 Buffett was on an OXY shares buying spree, with the billionaire investor targeting shares in the $57-$61.5 price range. WARREN BUFFETT AND OXY STOCK The stock edged up 1.8% to around 60.75 Tuesday during premarket trade. On Monday, OXY stock closed 2.5% higher, at 59.65. Buffett made OXY share purchases Monday, targeting prices between 58.61-59.62. On Tuesday, TD Cowen upgraded Occidental to "outperform" up from a "market perform" rating. Further, analyst David Deckelbaum has a OXY stock price target of 70, up from 63. Deckelbaum wrote that Occidental offers "superior" exposure to crude pricing, capital structure shifts, a favorable free cash yield and "captive buying support" from Buffett. Meanwhile, on Monday Morgan Stanley analyst Devin McDermott lowered the firm's OXY price target to 61, down from 71, and maintained an "Equal Weight" rating on the shares. 1034 ET - WTI oil adds to earlier gains, up 0.7% at $73.35 a barrel amid market chatter that Washington may have begun buying some crude oil to refill the nation's depleted Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Dennis Kissler at BOK Financial says in a note that several factors are keeping oil prices supported including the easing of a banking crisis, but adds that "traders also believe there is some buying for the Strategic Reserve in the mix as well." The federal government sold about 250M SPR barrels between Sept. 2021 and the end of 2022 to prevent retail gasoline prices from getting too high, leaving reserves at a 40-year-low 372M barrels. Brent crude rises 0.7% to $78.66.

11:30 ET - A growing number of tankers are waiting to unload oil in France, which is engulfed in a wave of strikes against government plans to raise the retirement age by two years. Brokers say there are around a dozen ships laden with at least 10M barrels of oil waiting to be discharged at oil terminals in Fos, west of Marseille, but the strikes have hampered port operations across the country. France is heavily dependent on oil imports and production has also been disrupted by strikes at refineries. The government has been gradually releasing strategic oil reserves to counter the shortages.

10:38 ET - Natural-gas prices slightly extend earlier declines, down 3% at $2.118/mmBtu after a weekly EIA storage report that came in bearish compared with forecasts but bullish compared with historical averages. The US government agency says gas inventories fell by 47B cubic feet last week versus forecasts in a WSJ survey for a 56-bcf decline, and a five-year-average withdrawal of 17-bcf. Total inventories now stand at 1.853 trillion cubic feet, narrowing a bearish storage surplus to 21% above normal versus a 23% overhang through the previous week.

1235 ET - US crude prices jump 1.9% to $74.34 a barrel and appear to be headed for their strongest finish in more than two weeks as US and global banking fears ease, and risk appetite returns. A weaker dollar -- the WSJ Dollar Index was recently down 0.37% -- is also pushing crude prices higher, as oil barrels are normally bought and sold in US currency and thus become more attractive to foreign buyers when the dollar weakens against their local currencies. The global benchmark Brent also rises, up 1.3% to $79.26. Analysts say oil's bullish momentum may be tested if Brent starts to approach the $80 level.
