Continental Gold Elevates the Environmental Permit Application for the Buritica Project to the National Level

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 15, 2015) - Continental Gold Inc. (TSX:CNL)(OTCQX:CGOOF) ("Continental" or the "Company") announces that the Company has requested that the National Government of Colombia assume the responsibility of reviewing the Environmental Impact Assessment ("EIA") for the Buriticá project as a Project of National Strategic Interest (Proyectos de Interés Nacional y Estratégicos ("PINE")). Consequently, the Company has withdrawn its application for the modification of the EIA from Corantioquia, the autonomous regional environmental authority of the department of Antioquia.

On November 12, 2013, the National Government of Colombia declared the Buriticá project a PINE Project, as contemplated under Colombian law. The withdrawal of the EIA modification application from Corantioquia and the corresponding PINE process imply that the environmental aspects of permitting will now fall under the scope of responsibility of Autoridad Nacional Licensias Ambientales (ANLA), the Colombian national environmental licensing agency. The EIA modification application is expected to be managed under a fast track timeline and under the high-level government supervision provided by PINE regulations. The Company had already been working closely with the national government on different aspects of the EIA, and intends to refile the application inclusive of new amendments, in order to better align the EIA with the parameters being used in the feasibility study currently in progress (anticipated completion of the feasibility study in Q2 2016).

Ari Sussman, President and CEO, commented: "While we are disappointed that we missed completion guidance for the EIA permitting, we are very confident that the application process will be handled on an expedited basis, and we will complete it well ahead of there being any impact to our critical path timeline. We look forward to working with the national government in bringing the Buriticá project to a commercial reality." "The establishment of the PINE initiative was the result of the national government's desire to advance large-scale projects in a timely fashion for the benefit of all Colombians, and it was designed to comprehensively address the challenges involved in moving large-scale projects forward", stated Leon Teicher, Executive Chairman. "I am confident that the approval process for our refiled application will be thorough and handled in a professional and efficient manner. We plan on building Buriticá to world-class standards and welcome the opportunity to demonstrate that the Company is committed to achieving the highest standards in environmental and health and safety."

CB Gold Inc. Announces Batero Offer Closer to Success Despite Misleading Red Eagle Claims

Eagle takes up 76.8M CB Gold shares
September 15, 2015

Red Eagle Mining’s (RD.V) final deadline for CB Gold (CBJ.V) shareholders to tender their shares to the Red Eagle offer has expired, and the company is taking up 76.8M shares. Today, those 76.8M shares of CB Gold will be swapped for 12.44M new Red Eagle shares which should start trading as of today.

Red Eagle was allowed to take up these shares as the BCSC has cancelled CB Gold’s shareholders rights plan, as requested by Red Eagle. Unfortunately the placement to Batero Gold remains standing, and it will be very interesting to see which side will win this battle and none of both potential acquirers might obtain a majority. This could mean that the largest shareholder will have to push its decisions through on annual meetings of CB Gold by for instance replacing the board of directors of the company.

CB Gold shareholders now have an additional 10 day period (expiring on September 25) to tender more shares to Red Eagle Mining and we expect some more shares will come out of the woods.

Time to Reload Continental Gold

This morning’s news that Continental Gold (CNL.TO) has made the decision to not continue waiting for the regional authority to grant its final environmental permits and instead go straight to the national government of Colombia sent CNL shares tumbling more than 20%. While this certainly doesn’t make existing shareholders happy, this could be a tremendous opportunity to get into CNL shares at an attractive price level,
Due to an impressive run higher in a short period of time and anticipated seasonal summer weakness, in June we suggested that it was time to take some money off the table in CNL and wait for an attractive re-entry point. This morning’s tumble is just such an opportunity. We added shares at C$2.01 and view the risk (~20%) to be relatively modest compared to what we view as the reasonable upside (C$4.00) in the event the government of Colombia grants CNL its final Environmental Impact Assessment.

Premier Gold drills 107 m of 1.19 g/t Au at Hasaga

2015-09-15 06:42 ET - News Release

Mr. Ewan Downie reports

PREMIER EXPANDS GOLD MINERALIZATION AT HASAGA RED LAKE

Premier Gold Mines Ltd. is providing a further update from continuing surface drilling at the company's 100-per-cent-owned Hasaga project in the Red Lake gold-mining district of Northwestern Ontario. Drilling continues to expand mineralization in both the Central zone and the Hasaga porphyry with highlight results that include assays of up to 1.06 grams per tonne gold across 93.0 metres (Central zone) and 1.19 g/t Au across 107.0 m (Hasaga porphyry).

Hasaga is host to the past-producing Hasaga and Gold Shore mines and is strategically located proximal to the Balmer-Confederation unconformity, recognized as an important geologic feature at the multimillion-ounce past- and currently producing Red Lake area mines. Premier believes that Hasaga and Gold Shore, underground mines that ceased production in the early 1950s, have the potential to host gold mineralization that may be amenable to open-pit mining methods in addition to higher-grade underground minable mineralization. Current drill targets include the Hasaga porphyry zone, testing the porphyry rock unit that hosts the past-producing Hasaga and Howey gold mines, where in excess of 600,000 ounces of gold was produced by underground mining methods, and the Central zone, where drilling has delineated widespread gold mineralization in the Dome stock granodiorite.

The table provides a more comprehensive summary of results from five additional holes drilled at the Central zone target which is considered open to the east and north. The table provides a summary of recent holes completed in the Hasaga porphyry.

Highlights from holes with completed assays in the Central zone and Hasaga porphyry targets include:

Central zone (reporting holes HLD009-013):

HLD009 -- 1.28 g/t Au over 14.0 m and 1.64 g/t Au over 56.0 m;
HLD011 -- 1.25 g/t Au over 50.8 m and 0.79 g/t Au over 172.5 m;
HLD012 -- 1.06 g/t Au over 93.0 m and 1.04 g/t Au over 10.0 m.

Hasaga porphyry (reporting holes HMP024-037):

HMP024 -- 1.19 g/t Au over 107.0 m, including 23.34 g/t Au over three m;
HMP029 -- 1.02 g/t Au over 48.0 m and 0.98 g/t Au over 24.0 m;
HMP031 -- 1.09 g/t Au over 40.0 m and 0.71 g/t Au over 21.0 m;
HMP037 -- 1.11 g/t Au over 87.0 m and 0.66 g/t Au over 29.0 m.

Central zone drilling is currently on the 19th hole of the program and Hasaga porphyry drilling is currently on the 58 hole. Widespread, disseminated mineralization has been noted in all holes and additional assays will be released upon receipt.

The early-stage nature of this drill program,
including uncertain geometries, incomplete overall
assay results and widespread mineralization
preclude Premier from reliably correlating and
estimating true widths at this time.

The Hasaga project covers 677 hectares beside the town of Red Lake. The property is located along a regional unconformity that hosts multiple historic mines, including Hasaga, Howey and Madsen. The current phase 1 drill program has been increased to in excess of 40,000 metres of drilling to test both the Hasaga porphyry zone and the Central zone targets.

The Central zone target encompasses a series of conjugate structures occurring within the Dome stock, a large granitic intrusive unit in the heart of the Red Lake camp. A historic hole drilled in the target area by Lac Minerals in the 1980s reporting widespread mineralization (HRL87-05: 0.75 g/t Au/218.0 m) was never followed up until the current program. The Dome and nearby McKenzie stocks are host to several mines having historic gold production exceeding one million ounces

"Drilling to date suggests persistent near-surface gold mineralization is widespread at Hasaga. In the Central zone, we have intersected characteristic alteration and mineralization in every hole drilled, and the target horizon remains open for expansion," stated Stephen McGibbon, executive vice-president of Premier on the company's C-Suite blog (see the company's website). "The Hasaga porphyry drilling to the south also supports our model for open-pit-style gold mineralization with local high-grade sections being noted."

Lithium Boom By Warren Buffet And Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA)

Die Zutaten sind vielleicht schon angerichtet, die Chance auf ein Hype ist da.

September 15, 2015, 4:58 PM EDT
By James Stafford

The age of electrification across the transportation sector, the solar panel revolution, and Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s battery gigafactory are igniting a battle for the cheapest battery. That will transform lithium into a boom-time mineral and the hottest commodity on the energy investor’s radar. It has been easy to take lithium for granted. This wonder mineral is the backbone of our everyday lives, popping up in everything from the glass in our windows to our mountains of electronics.

And while investors have long appreciated the steady rise in demand for this preferred mineral, the number of new applications continues to multiply. Smart phones, tablets, laptops, and other consumer electronics demand more lithium. But the largest driver for future lithium use will be in electric vehicles and home batteries for solar panels. That has lithium on the verge a boom for which supply can no longer be taken for granted.

Not since the shale boom have we seen a market transformation of such significance. Lithium has long been used for a variety of mundane purposes, and while the variety is spectacular—with applications in everything from glass, ceramics and greases to a line-up of industrial process—it has flown under the radar for most investors.

Supply has always largely managed to keep pace with steadily rising demand for lithium, and while the mineral is slated for growth with or without the ‘battery explosion’, Tesla’s gigafactory will spark a phenomenal spike in demand that will be no less exciting than the shale boom.Not only will battery gigafactories change an already attractive lithium demand picture, but the suppliers themselves will change, making way for newer entrants—with more foresight and better technology–that will provide some of the best investment opportunities in the sector.

The lithium story cannot be told without first telling the Tesla story. Tesla Motors is developing a cheaper line of electric cars for release later this decade, and to achieve this it is constructing a $5-billion gigafactory to build 500,000 electric cars with the objective of lowering the cost of batteries by at least 30 percent.

Moreover, around one-quarter of the plant’s capacity may be for Tesla’s stationary storage business, which also sells backup batteries for homes, businesses and utilities—all fueled by lithium.

According to Tesla’s brainchild, Elon Musk, demand for stationary storage batteries has skyrocketed to the point that an expansion of the gigafactory may have to be considered before it is even built.

Musk is eyeing a “complete transformation of the entire energy infrastructure of the world to completely sustainable zero carbon,” and what he’s talking about here is lithium-battery production on a mind-blowing scale. Tesla is planning to produce more lithium-ion batteries in this factory than in the entire global marketplace combined.

Lithium—the lightest and most versatile of the metals—is the backbone of this exploding battery market. Lithium is already a key part of our everyday lives, but as batteries become the rule of the day in a new global energy picture, demand for lithium is soaring—and we are only at the beginning of this curve.

Battery manufacturers across the board are moving to lithium because it has the highest electric output per unit weight. And nowhere will this demand soar more than with the production of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles used by everyone from Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Renault, and Mitsubishi, to Ford, Chevrolet and GM. And of course Tesla Motors. Without lithium, there will be no gigafactory. In fact, this factory alone will need 15,000 tons of lithium carbonate a year just to get started.

We are on the edge of a profound competition over batteries as Tesla drives down lithium-ion battery production costs, lowers the benchmark and increases cost competition. The response will be new entrants to this market, and competing battery gigafactories.

Tesla’s competitors will make this one of the biggest battles of the century—a battle the entirely depends on lithium supply. Tesla’s biggest rival will likely be Build Your Dreams (BYD), the Chinese automaker backed by Warren Buffet. Already, BYD is building electric buses on American soil and has global gigafactory ambitions. By the end of the year, according to Reuters, BYD should have 10 GWh of battery production capacity, which it expects to increase to 34 GWh by 2020 with a new factory in Brazil—about the same capacity as Tesla’s.

Other Tesla rivals rushing to the battery production scene will be iPhone manufacturer Foxconn and LG Chem, which is already one of the top three battery makers. Samsung is also hot on the trail, having just acquired Magna’s battery production division.

According to Credit Suisse, the lithium industry is “poised for significant volume growth,” which could lead to shortages of supply. As a result producers of lithium are set to enjoy significant earnings throughout the decade.

Even before Tesla’s gigafactory – and its rivals – entered the picture, global lithium consumption had doubled in the decade before 2012, driven largely by its use in lithium-ion batteries for cell phones and power tools. Then electric cars hit the scene in earnest, further boosting demand for lithium, while Tesla’s gigafactory is expected to use up as much as 17 percent of the existing lithium supply, according to Fortune magazine, citing Goldman Sachs.For investors who are just catching on to the lithium battery revolution, the best way to play the game is to look past the traditional lithium producers. In this boom scenario, investors will be looking at companies with the lowest market caps, solid management and highly prospective deposits.

Currently, lithium is not traded as a commodity; rather, it is managed through a kind of oligopoly situation where there are three or four major suppliers globally and they have rather successfully managed supply and demand for lithium over the past decades. Because of this, everything is priced on a contract basis.

“The problem is that these three or four major suppliers have been responsible for supply and demand but they are not going to be able to meet new demand for lithium,” Dr. Andy Robinson, a Ph.D. in Geochemistry and the COO of Pure Energy Minerals, told Oilprice.com.

As Robinson points out, however, not all lithium is equal. It’s sold in different types for different prices. For instance, lithium carbonate sells for around $6,000 per ton and is used to make some of the materials for new battery technology. However, many of the new battery technologies—particularly those used by Tesla—use lithium hydroxide as the starting material, which trades at around $2,000 more per ton than lithium carbonate.

And lithium found in salty water, or brines, is by far the most cost effective. According to Dr. Robinson, “brine is the best way to produce lithium because it’s so cheap, as nature has done all the hard work in rendering the lithium into a form that is easy to extract from the ground. All you have to do is drill a few wells and pump the liquid brine.”

Furthermore, there are only a few places in the world where lithium is present at high enough concentrations in these salty brines and the most famous is in the Atacama Desert, in the “Lithium Triangle” of Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. Supply here is threatened by corruption and politics, making it difficult to capitalize on burgeoning demand.

When Tesla’s gigafactory comes online, everyone will be looking for cost-effective lithium sources closer to home, which brings us full circle to the state of Nevada, where Pure Energy Minerals has the only potential future brine resource in North America. The only other brine resources are located in China, are much smaller and are controlled by Chinese companies.

Lithium is increasingly the tech of choice for battery banks across the board, and when Tesla’s gigafactory is producing batteries one year from now, the winners in this emerging battery boom will be those behind the lithium, and those following the brine.
